Vagabond Mother

Still working on it, what do you think? My blank verse has been sloppy lately...

Vagabond Mother

The nights of mist bite coldly through
The tattered shawls around her form,
While flakes of snow fall soft to greet
The shivering shadows of her tears.
An overpass does not shelter,
Nor does the lintel of a door;
Only thoughts of lost innocence
When she was young, with braided hair.

The child clings unto the teat
With eyes as wide as saucer-pans;
He sucks, yet finds not nourishment
To end his suckling, swaddle-cries.
So suck again—he’ll only try
In hopes that it will end the pangs,
While the void in his stomach grows
To match the pupils of his eyes.

“A dollar please, for formula”
Has now become her formal cry;
(Sometimes her hunger runs
More freely then her infant sons.)
There was a time, when she was young
That she drank not the dregs of fear;
Only cream from the frothy cup
Of the man-servants softened hands.

Yet, time does change, and bastard sons
Do end the innocence of youth.
So now—so frozen she could be
The breeding grounds of snow itself—
She gasps, and with fingers clasps
Her body closer to her sons.
In hopes that someone will pass by
And give the child life again.

Discoveries

Just today me and my younger siblings have made a wonderful discovery. The world is a flat plane and is able to be circumnavigated by way of portals (pink ones, mind you) at either extremities. These portals are guarded by a secret sect of Eskimos that defend it with seal-bombs…Interesting isn’t it? Let me tell you the history of the conclusion.

It all started with an innocent talk between me and Danny about why our dear Auntie Rose was not doing the lunch dishes. Then somehow, (still don’t know how yet) we got into an intellectual discussion about his unwavering opinion of her, he insisted that I had unwavering opinions too. Then we went on somehow about how he couldn’t prove to me (with flawed logic) that the banana box was really brown and not black and then, Danny insisted that he was right because, in the rules of arguing, the antagonist is always wrong. Things progressed and, sooner or later, we got deadlocked in a stare-down while muttering insults at eachother…

Danny: There’s a squishy spot between your ears, its called your face.

Me: Holocaust victim

Danny: You sank the Titanic.

Me: You look like an albino Congo slave.

Danny: Now I know why God made only one of you.

Me: I still can’t understand why he even made you!

Danny: Well you’re fat.

Me: Your nose is a second penis.

Christine: Guys, is it possible to whack-off your nose? I mean, if its runny and all…

Danny: Silence woman!

Me: Hag.

This continued for a short while before Danny changed the victory objectives. It was no longer who could throw a better insult, it was who could look away first. If I had looked away, he would conclude that I have a wavering opinion. If I did not look away, I had an unwavering opinion…both of us insisting that we were each other’s “experiment”. And yes, much of the same sort…in the end we came to the conclusion that……… well….. I really don’t know. (Christine still insisted that we needed to check the levelness of our heads with a barometer.)

But what does it matter! The Togonians still play freely amongst the Banana groves and, no matter what, I’m not unwavering in my opinion… I think.

Reflecting

It just sort of hit me the other day when I was thinking about it: in a few weeks I'm going to be moving and everything that I've known for the past five years is not going to be around anymore. All the memories I've stored, all the places I've been, all friends I've made they're all going to be gone. (O.k fine so I'll still be able to keep in touch with the friends, but still, its not the same.)
Yes, change is supposed to be good for you and I'm sure it is. In fact, I'm convinced of it, but there's alot of stuff I know I'll miss: the roadtrips across the western plains every weekend, the big blue sky, the endless desert that has some of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever seen, going to Houston every summer to work, the Match Meetings, hanging out with the Goodes and playing Nintendo with them till 5 in the morning... Texas is my home. When I think of it, its actually going to be very hard for me to leave.
Was looking back and here's some pictures of old times, good memories... very good memories...

My sister Angie and her husband Joey right before they got married. Some of the coolest people you will ever meet.

Me and Mari in Houston 2006

Don't really feel compelled to explain this...

Or this...

Wordstock 2006. Kiesha your a doll!!

Some old friends at the first prom 2005. Left to right: Brian, Nicky, Casper (David) Bobby, Martyn, Vic, Jesse, then me.

Me and the Korkames girls before they went down to Miami (mid 2005) Good people really, known them since I was 14. Forget why Arthur was in the picture but I do remember being mad at him cause he got to go down with them and I didn't.. heheh

Yep, I'm going to miss it...

There and Back Again

Nope I wasn't speaking about "A Hobbits Tale by Bilbo Baggins" really, rather it was Wordstock... I went... I saw... I conquered. And now the question is, did I enjoy it???

NO!!!

O.k maybe I did... a lil... mostly...alot... fine I would blow my brains out gladly to do it all over again.

It was all perfect, some of the best 6 days of my life with all the fun, laughs, and good times one can imagine. The bands were great, the food was great, had the greatest team and leader who made a joke out of practically everything. Do I miss it? Sure as hell yeah, but ptl it was fun anyway. Here's some of my favorite pictures of the whole thing:

First off my team affectionately dubbed "Corn Hole County"

Me at the Art Awards Contest. Got 1st place in poetry and 3rd in Short Story.

Lil bro vs. big bro... as I recall my team won 2-0

Here's rachel looking like the Devil:P

Two of my bro's, forget what Martyn was grinning about, but it was pretty funny.

*Sigh*Only in Texas man, only in Texas.
